Integrity- The missing ingredient

INTEGRITY - The missing ingredient

Throughout life, one key quality we ought to protect or guard religiously is integrity. It is our sole responsibility to find, take back and keep our righteous mind in the hustling and bustling in this evil world.

Nelson Mandela gave a simplified meaning of the word integrity. He said, "to have integrity, all we think, say and do must be the same". In the world today, how many people can we point at that are able to harmonize what they say, think and do?

People are desperate to make money without taking into consideration what it takes and the genuine means to get it. Machiavelli said that, "the end justifies the means". But the big question is, how can you meet a legitimate need through unlawful means? Cyber fraud, stealing, pilfering etc. are typical examples of getting whatever you want through crook means.

Market women create a depression in their containers and cheat their customers which is commerce without morality. Others also inject foods items with ripening chemicals as well as infiltrate oils just to sell to make money.

Students cheat in examinations to get excellent grades. Some female students share a bed with the lecturer and their grades shoot up afterwards. Politicians lie to get power. Some governments allow foreign investors to enrich themselves with the spoils of the land. Sports men and women rely on drugs to become winners which violates the spirit of the competition.

Accountants forge figures to keep the profit. The religious leader is careful not to offend anyone to keep the membership intact. In all of these examples, it is clear that inherent power to stand by what is right and honourable has been grossly compromised.

One man who has demonstrated integrity is Job in the Bible. In Job 27:5 it says, "God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will not remove mine integrity from me". He was confident in Job 31:6 when he asked to be weighed in an even balance that God may know his integrity. Can we also make such bold statement? Try not to become a man of success but try to be a man of integrity. Winning is nice if you don't lose your integrity in the process.

How do you feel when you reflect on how you got to where you are today? Was it by dint of hard work? If not then you allowed circumstances to betray the weight of your conscience. There is no pillow so soft as a clear conscience.

Rise up today and tell yourself you are going to begin obtain everything through genuine means. That you are going to set high standards and raise the bar of integrity high.
